The interview!

Angelo, Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery.

Finally, after many stressful weeks you have finalised your personal statement, sent off your university application and endured a painful wait. Now it’s time to tackle the interview stage! Although it might seem daunting at first the interview is an incredible way to showcase yourself and show Plymouth University what an amazing medical student and doctor you can be!

A good way to start off is by doing adequate preparation. Make sure you understand the format of the interview, how many stations there are and how long each station roughly is. Its important to keep this in mind as it will help you give well thought out answers without running out of time. It’s also ideal to get as much practice as possible, get a family member, friend, anyone available and do many practice interviews. It’s important to get a feel for what the real interview is going to be like, so you know what you’re in for on the real day.

Once the preparation is done it’s here! The day of the interview. Your nerves will be kicking in but remember the interviewers want you to do well, so remain calm and do your best. More importantly BE YOURSELF! Share your experiences and avoid giving generic answers. Show why YOU specifically would make a great medical student. The time will fly by and eventually your interview is complete.

Applying to medical school may seem stressful but it is definitely worth it. For me personally it was all worth it in the end. The clubs, restaurants and being by the coast make Plymouth an incredible place to be. So, sit tight, prepare well and soon you may find yourself having a blast at Plymouth university as well!
